Congratulations to Deputy First Class (DFC) R. Helmer who received the Firefighter of The Year Award 2014 from the Hurlock Fire Department. DFC Helmer is the Assistant Fire Chief for the Hurlock Fire Department and very active in the Fire Service. His children were also named on his award as they usually accompany him at the Fire Station.
In addition to receiving the Firefighter of The Year Award 2014, DFC Helmer also received a Life Saving Award from the Hurlock Fire Department for being first on scene of a cardiac arrest patient and starting CPR. Along with other members of public safety involved that later responded, the patient ultimately survived as a result of Helmer's quick lifesaving actions.
Congratulation to DFC Helmer on his awards. We are very fortunate to have him in Caroline County as a Deputy Sheriff.
