Congratulations to Deputy First Class (DFC) R. Helmer who received the Firefighter of The Year Award 2014 from the Hurlock Fire Department. DFC Helmer is the Assistant Fire Chief for the Hurlock Fire Department and very active in the Fire Service. His children were also named on his award as they usually accompany him at the Fire Station.
In addition to receiving the Firefighter of The Year Award 2014, DFC Helmer also received a Life Saving Award from the Hurlock Fire Department for being first on scene of a cardiac arrest patient and starting CPR. Along with other members of public safety involved that later responded, the patient ultimately survived as a result of Helmer's quick lifesaving actions.
Congratulation to DFC Helmer on his awards. We are very fortunate to have him in Caroline County as a Deputy Sheriff.

On Dec. 5, 2014, the M.A.D.D. Maryland Chapter honored Eastern Shore law enforcement by hosting a breakfast and awarding certificates of appreciation for enforcement efforts of Impaired Driving.
Police Officers from throughout Maryland's Eastern Shore assembled to be recognized by M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Maryland for their efforts in removing drunk drivers from our highways.
Deputy First Class (DFC) Jared Royer of the Caroline County Sheriff's Office, Patrol Division, was presented a Certificate of Appreciation by Lisa Spicknall, MADD Maryland's Lead Victim Services Specialist in honor of his dedication to DWI enforcement.
MADD's mission is to eliminate drunk driving from our roadways and encourages you to be responsible and don't drink and drive. Please report drunk drivers and be responsible by not driving after consuming any amount of alcohol. Please enjoy the holidays and be safe on the roadways.
